A Troll is a Troll -- I mean really?

As usual my points seem to subtle for folks to respond to.  Naturally I tend to see red when ever MTG makes a comment, and sadly it seems that alleged Ariel is just another troll as revealed when I tried to agree with her.

The Inside and Outside of New Music According to the Times
Certainly a lot of recently composed music is being performed in New York City. Whether this activity fully represents new music is another question. Rather the NYC scene may represent new music yet not include it. Phil Fried says: December 17, 2011 at 2:32 pm
On second though these two articles seem to restate that old sawhorse uptown/downtown. Phil Fried says: December 18, 2011 at 12:43 pm

Something like this:

Composers in group “a” are performed in what composers in group “b” call museums. (Arts institutions). Composers in group “b” prefer to be performed in museums. (Arts institutions).

Did I miss something?

“..In my concert travels I have yet to find people who buy tickets to a concert based solely on a review by any critic…” says Phil Fried December 21, 2011 at 11:55 am

I believe those folks are called snobs.

I know more than a few.

“..but to call people who think for themselves snobs is a misdirected shot -..”

Why yes it is. It seems that you completely misread my post. I was actually referring to the folks who don’t think for themselves. - says Phil Fried says: December 21, 2011 at 4:36 pm
“Mr. Fried, you may allow other people to think for you…”

That’s a good description. - Phil Fried says: December 21, 2011 at 5:01 pm
Higher Definition: The Link Between Opera and Film
Being reduced to a scold ain't fun-but really. Worse these folks claim that composing for a bassoon is somehow less likely to get a performance than an orchestral work?  Oh my imagine how many bassoonists there are compared to say string quartets?  Solo instrument music especially for college players is  lucrative indeed. says Phil Fried : November 23, 2011

For me the connection is tenuous. Film scoring is mostly an instrumental form. Opera is not. On the other hand if your expectation is a dramatic reading with the words set to music, heterophonicly to the underscoring fine. In fact I sent a letter to MN opera some time ago to that effect. What I had in mind was to turn classic movies into operas using their original sound tracks. Obviously the same procedure could be used to create new works

The Composer’s Toolbox
I like harmony and counterpoint. Then again I don’t teach in a university. says Phil Fried : November 23, 2011
